Notable features

The Former Melbourne Stock Exchange is truly a beautiful building. The Stock Exchange featured a fantastic Venetian gothic tower, an imposing and richly detailed facade, stained glass windows, ornate tracery and cast iron. The facade features recessed gothic arches with gargoyles and spectacular stonework. The interiors of the Former Stock Exchange and neighbouring gothic back feature elevated gothic vaulted ceilings, mosaic floor tiling and oak staircases.

All of these features contribute to a composition that leaves a lasting impression.

The Former Stock Exchange building on Collins Street is often described as a Cathedral of Commerce, such is its design. It currently plays host to the Melbourne banking museum in the old vault room downstairs from the main entrance.
