Notable featuresThe Exhibition Centre combines a number of exciting ideas into its overall expression. Its three major external components-the entry building, exhibition space and concourse-integrate to create a highly legible composition. The concourse, which is in fact a verandah, explores the notion of a public antespace that subtly reflects that traditional Australian architectural element. Its forest of fine posts contrasts with the much heavier columnar expression generally found in traditional public porticos. The juxtaposition of geometric elements culminates in a projecting metallic wing which acts as an entrance marker. HistoryArchitect: Denton Corker Marshall
