The Strand Hotel was a landmark

Construction Details

Built: 1920~
Original purpose (when built) : Club/Hotel/Coffee Palace

Built in the Interwar period in the Art-Deco style

Notable features

This tall hotel was Moorish in style, similar to Majorca House on Flinders Lane. Formed an unusual relationship with Leonard House (1924) and contributing greatly to the character of lower Elizabeth Street.

History

Architect: Sydney Smith, Ogg & Serpell

This building has been destroyed

National Bank ordered the demolition of the building in the early 1970s to make way for a new office block.
