Built in the Victorian period in the Mannerist style
An extremely tall building for its time, the Modern Permanent was one of about 12 such Victorian skyscrapers which dominated the financial sector in the 1880s. The building was capped by a second empire styled roof feature, but was strong in Mannerist detail. The building stretched back toward Flinders lane, with a large unfacaded area a feature often referred to at the time as being a lofty pile.
This building has been destroyed (1960~)
The building was demolished to make way for speculative 1960s office development.
