Built in the Edwardian period in the Art Noveau style
One of Melbournes best examples of Art Noveau architecture, the Melbourne mansions was one of Melbournes first apartment highrises built at the turn of the century at the Paris end of Collins Street. The curvy prodruding and recessed balconies and balustrades are accompanied by bay windows and an unusual crowning feature whilst the base was treated with neo-classical rustication.
HistoryArchitect: Walter Butler and George Inskip
This building has been destroyed (1960~)
The Melbourne Mansions apartments were demolished in the 1960s to make way for the plaza of the Rio Tinto CRA building - Melbournes tallest at the time.
