I call in whenever I'm drunk and walking down memory lane.... 8)

Replacing this with a Facebook page? ----- :runaway:

Facebook has its time and place I suppose but really...it's designed for the attention span of five year olds.

The page in it's current incarnation is dead in the water.

I think it should be totally revamped, all dead threads chucked out and a selection of the good intact ones used to kick off a new board.

I'd post on a new Walking Melbourne board.

I've been looking at various threads from years ago and think this forum could be rejigged as JvdA has suggested.

I don't think facebook is really suitable for the very varied nature of the content of this website. Also, a lot of people don't trust facebook and won't join it, so that is pretty limiting. It's true that website forums have lost some popularity, but many still do well; it depends on the people and the subject of the forum.

In looking at the threads many have links to images that don't work. I am taking a view that most of these can be deleted, unless there is scope for the images to be restored, or the discussion is interesting enough to keep anyway.

One of the problems with images has been the hosts have either gone belly up over the years or they've changed things in such a way that the links don't work anymore.

That leads to a question of which host[s] are the more reliable to use, so that we won't have the same problem happen in the future. Suggestions will be welcome.

Once the threads are sorted and the chaff has been removed, we need some ideas to kick start people to post here with new material and discussions. There are plenty of Melbourne and Victoria things going on. Many have moved on and won't come back, but new people could be drawn in. We need a way to raise the profile of the forum to catch attention.

I'll listen to any thoughts about these ideas, and any other ideas that may help. Thanks for any feed back.

I often check but (with a few exceptions) I'm a reader, not one to contribute. Over the years I have found a heap of great pics and contributions.

Would be sad to see it lost but understand the issues being faced.

I need to post on here more often.

FaceBook is killing Forums like these and I can't stand using FaceBook.
