This thread explains the rules of the Walking Melbourne forum. We want to make visiting this forum an enjoyable experience for everyone here. The Rules exist, not to deter people who want to share in the Walking Melbourne experience, but to enable the Moderators to act, when needed.

When Posting For The Very First Time:
1a. If your very first post contains a link to another site (either in the message or in the Signature), your post will be edited or removed. Period. We prefer you to introduce yourself first, then you're fine to introduce us to links that are of genuine interest to this forum.

1b. We do not tolerate SPAM of any kind. Because we will control spamming, it's important your first post must have something to do with the Walking Melbourne forum; a simple greeting or thanks or irrelevant comment is not sufficient. (Note: All new member's first few posts are held hidden from view and are not visible on the boards until the posts are approved by a Moderator, and only then will they appear on a thread. Posts made by spammers simply won't be seen on the boards and can't be read by search-engine bots, so spammers are wasting their time even trying to post here.) Therefore, unless your first post appears to be relevant in some way to Walking Melbourne, it will be deleted and your membership will probably be terminated.

1c. Please ensure that your initial contributions are coherent and make sense and have relevance with the thread subject, otherwise they may be mistaken for SPAM and your posts will be immediately deleted and your membership may be terminated.

The Rest Of The Rules:
2. If your Member Profile or Signature includes a link to a site that is deemed inappropriate or offensive by a Moderator, they will be edited, and your account may be deleted.

3. Walking Melbourne cannot guarantee the accuracy or truthfulness of postings. We, and any person associated with the forums (including Members, Moderators, and Administrators), cannot be held legally responsible for any of the content they contain. We cannot, and do not, pre-approve or verify the information anywhere on our Forums. Posts in these forums reflect only the views of their authors; but, if you see something that you believe to be wrong or misleading, please bring it to the attention of any of our Moderators. Thank you!

4. Users harassing, flaming or resorting to vicious personal attacks on forum members will be banned without question, and the posts edited or deleted, and suspension or termination of membership may take place. Attacks on non-members (such as suggestions of violence against people) will be deleted by the Moderators and may result in a ban; generally, self-editing is a better way to go.

5. Posts containing profanity or offensive language (including blasphemy and racist comments) will be modified or deleted by our Moderators, and you may be banned.

6. Moderators, in their duties, will always try to exercise discretion and consideration towards members, but do have the final authority to deal with members and any posts (including those posts which just make them feel 'icky') in a way that they believe necessary for the harmony and smooth running of the forum. Where possible, Moderators will PM or email the member to explain the decision taken.

We have tried to keep these Rules as few as possible, trusting to the good sense we expect from forum members to not make it necessary to add more rules; our trust has been vindicated by the great majority of members over the years of this forum's existence. We appreciate every member's co-operation and goodwill at this forum!

Thanks for abiding by these rules and, on behalf of Walking Melbourne, we hope you enjoy your time chatting here.

Williampitt, can you put a block on a select few offensive words for this forum? I refer to this.

Thanks Olderfleet, unfortunately my instinct was to delete it before I could block the words, but the next time it happens I'll be onto it.

This is a bump to let people know that the Rules have been revised in 2010, and this would be a good opportunity for members to get familiar with the changes.
