The massive three-level home, approved by Burnside Council in 2009 and referred to by locals as the "Shahin mansion", is finally taking shape.
It spans two allotments but, with a land area of 3707sq m, it could accommodate about 12 average courtyard homes.
Industry insiders estimate the development to be worth $10 million, and for that price, the owners will get their own lift and a building 57m wide, 14m high and 45m deep with five bathrooms, nine bedrooms, a pool, enough rainwater storage to fill one fifth of an Olympic swimming pool and numerous living and entertainment areas.
There will be parking for up to 25 vehicles and a car wash.

The two blocks of land alone were worth $3.2 million in 2008.
Neighbours on Burnalta Cres who supported and objected to the development at the time it was approved, did not want to comment, although some said privately they were pleased with the outcome.
The Shahin family was made famous by businessman, philanthropist and UN refugee worker Fathi (Fred) Shahin, who died in 2009 but was survived by wife Salwa, his children Charlie, Sam, Yasser and Amal and, at the time, 11 grandchildren.
After the 1983 Lebanese civil war, Mr Shahin, a Muslim, decided to migrate to Australia and arrived with few possessions but a love of his adopted country.

He built a half-billion-dollar business empire based on the Smokemart and On The Run franchises.
The mansion is believed to be the future home of Yasser and his family, but surprisingly for a structure which makes such a statement, nobody in the Shahin family contacted by The Advertiser wanted to talk about the massive project.
The property adds to an impressive stable of real estate owned by the Shahin family on Burnalta Cres and neighbouring Ifould Drive worth $15.8m.
At the time the property was approved, Yasser, his mother Salwa and Samer all owned land in the streets.
The family also owns a mansion at Sellicks Beach

To be honest though, if I had the money I'd want parking for 25+ cars and my own car wash.

It has the look of a French style to me. I haven't found any pic of what the finished product is to look like.

The new building being built at 3 - 4 Burnalta Crescent Burnside will cover the entire width of the two blocks of land as outlined in the photograph below in bold yellow before the construction started.

It is part of Adelaide culture to vilify people who have money and it doesn't matter if they have worked very hard to earn their money, so these reports of mega mansions sent some people in Adelaide into overdrive with insults. Having said that, claims have been made by residents of Burnalta Crescent that the Shahin family are a community menace. Residents point to behaviour like bullying old ladies who refuse to sell their properties to them, the family hooning around corners in black hummers/landcruisers and leaving mud and construction debris for 5 years worth of projects on the street.

Thanks for that Edwardian, I guess the facade could have looked worse...

...But it's still ridiculous.
