The rear wings added later (1920s) were demolished recently to make way for the new tower behind. I was a little saddened as they once gave the streetscape a very English feel. The brick fence appears to have dated to that era and is retained while the outbuildings aren't, making it a little inconguous. It is a shame also that while the fence remains the gardens (while not notable) gave way to become a very bland looking carpark with a small lawn.

While I'm not certain it also does look from this photo that the building on the right may have actually been the original 4 storey postwar office building in the first photo refurbished and modernised with an additional 5 levels added ....

That's a really lovely house, converted into offices now I assume, can imagine it would have (and still does) some great interiors. Be nice to have a look inside.

I agree it is a lovely house.

I went on a wonderful tour of St Kilda Road mansions a while ago and this was one of them. The staircase was really special. I have some photos of the inside but I need to look at the agreement I signed about use of photos taken inside the private buildings on the tour. There is more information about 572 St Kilda Rd at http://www.whitehat.com.au/Melbourne/Bu ... willah.asp

The house is actually a hotel or conference centre of some sort now, & there is a cafe & bar inside so you can actually go in and check out a couple of the rooms.

I'd recommend only having a drink or a coffee though - I've been there once for lunch and the food & service is truly awful!
