I would have thought the laboratory at Fishermans Bend where David Warren created the Black Box Flight Recorder would be worthy of consideration if it still exists. There are possibly other potential candidates her:

What about the Queen Vic Markets? The Queen Victoria Market complex with its intact series of buildings, including the wonderful Meat Market on Elizabeth street, have operated since 1868 as a market, and now do so within an urbanised, Western city. How many other modern, Western Cities have maintained operating fruit and vegetable markets in their capital cities?

It is the last of the 4 Victorian area markets that serviced Melbourne: Eastern, Western and the elegant Fish markets beside the Yarra.

Added interest - it was built over the old Melbourne General cemetery which included the Aboriginal cemetery, where Aboriginal resistance leaders Tunnerminnerwait and Maulboyheenner were buried after a publically hanging not far away on the Cnr Bowen & Franklin Sts. This was Melbourne’s first public execution.

So there is both a social and architectural case for its consideration.

Just thoughts...

^^ also i believe that it is supposed to be the largest covered market in the world. (or at least it was once, if not now)

Trades Hall and the 8 hour monument must also be woth consideration.

Melbourne (Victoria) was one of the first (the first?) to give workers the 8 hour day. The monument to commemorate it and the classically inspired Trades Hall (also birth place of the labour party) designed by Reed architect of the State Library, are rich in labour history of both state and international significance.

I would have thought the 8 hour day was important enough for international heritage recognition.

If the 8 Hours Monument were to be considered should its current location be made the heritage site or the location where it was orginally ereccted and stood for many years?

I have been browsing the world heritage list and actually the Exhibition buildings and the Sydney opera house are amongst the most recent buildings on the list, most are much older. Still haven't spotted any technology on the list.
