Just a reminder to everyone that Flinders St will be closed down from Friday night to Sunday morning for the filming of the mini-series The Pacific.

I thought I might go along for a look to add to the pictures I took last year (see here: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=440&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=15 ) and was wondering if anyone else was going along with camera in hand.

Cheers, Walker

PS: Here's the notice on the council website:

Swanston and Flinders streets intersection: 2-3 February
Road closures will take place around the Swanston and Flinders streets intersection over the weekend of 2-3 February. The road closures are scheduled to come into force from 10pm Friday, 1 February until 9am Sunday, 3 February.

Traffic will be diverted in surrounding streets between these times as follows:

Roads

Flinders Street will be closed between Russell Street and Queen Street;
There will be part road closures/diversions on:
o St Kilda Road (at Southbank Blvd);
o Collins Street (at King Street, Queens Street, Elizabeth Street and Russell Street); and
o Flinders Street (at Exhibition Street and Spring Street).

The footpath will be closed on the south side (Flinders Street Station side) of Flinders Street between Swanston Street and Elizabeth Street. Looks like Melbourne is becoming quite the film location.
Let's just hope the Pacific turns out to be better than Ghost Rider.

Sorry if this doesn't sound cool or whatever, but am I the only person who thinks it is nothing but selfish of City of Melbourne to close Flinders Street off for three days straight? This is a major thoroughfare after all.

It's a bad weekend to be doing it, what with the pride parade and St Kilda festival et al. Maybe goatrooster is right about too much growth? :wink:

Yes, terribly selfish! And I'm sure the council would have us turn into a new New York.

You guys. :lol:

I was actually having a little sticky beak this afternoon and it all looked quite interesting.
I could see a couple of old W class trams, old bus, banners welcoming Yanks and a lot of people dressed in period clothing.
Too bad I didn't have camera at hand. :wallbash:

p.s. I didn't mind the inconvenience at all, and judging by the hundreds hanging around looking and smiling, I think that opinion was shared by many. :)
