Brutalist building was the flavour of the 1970s.

Featuring off form concrete and reinforced concrete construction in a bulky and blocky expression.

Use of precast elements and angularity gave these often free standing giants added emphasis.

Fortunately for Melbourne, this style was kept largely to the suburbs. Many other Australian CBD areas suffered the impact of 70s brutalism more seriously.
