Walking Melbourne

Old English

A romantic style evoking old english tudor (also known as Tudor revival or Tudorbethan) popular in residential buildings, particularly large homes and flats. Most popular during the interwar years, but often revived since.

Steeply pitched roofs, half-timbering often infilled with herringbone brickwork, tall mullioned windows, high chimneys, jettied (overhanging) first floors above pillared porches, dormer windows supported by consoles, and even at times thatched roofs.
